Overview

CCT is managed under a 30 year Build-Operate-Transfer agreement set up with the Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) of the Government of India. The terminal is capable of handling fifth generation vessels up to 6,400 TEU. With the introduction of direct services to China, West Africa, Europe and US, DP World Chennai services the full basket of international trade in Chennai and the South India hinterland. Unlike any other container terminal in India, DP World Chennai is unique in its location, in as much as the port is situated within city limits. Location with a city with a growing population poses its own set of challenges. Within the terminal the biggest challenge was the limited yard space, which prior to takeover, led to huge delays and storage costs in delivery of containers. DP World's efforts in process re-engineering have brought the dwell time of containers at the terminal from 7-8 days in 2001 when taken over, to less than 24 hours today.

DP World Chennai has maintained its focus on exceeding customer needs and anticipating future trends to not only facilitate but also act as a driver for containerization and industrial growth in South India.
